How do I get an estimate?

Call or fill out the form and we set a time to come look at the job. Estimates are free, done in person, and written down. We do not price concrete over the phone.

Why will you not quote over the phone?

Because the price is decided by things you cannot see from a phone call: how deep the soft ground goes, where water leaves the property, how the slab ties into the street or the garage, and what the old concrete is sitting on. A phone number is a guess, and guesses turn into change orders.

What makes one driveway cost more than another the same size?

Thickness and reinforcement for the load it carries, demolition and haul off of the old slab, how much excavation and stone the subgrade needs, site access, and the finish you choose. Square footage is the smallest part of it.

Do you charge for the estimate?

No. The visit, the measurements and the written price are free, and there is no follow-up call unless you ask for one.

Do you take deposits?

For most jobs yes, to cover materials once we schedule the pour. The amount and the schedule are on your written estimate before you agree to anything.

How long before I can walk or drive on new concrete?

Foot traffic in 24 to 48 hours, passenger vehicles at about 7 days, heavy trucks and dumpsters at 28 days. We leave the specific dates for your pour in writing before we go.

How long does a typical job take?

A residential driveway runs three to five working days including demolition, base, forms and the pour. A patio or walkway is often two to three. Foundations and commercial pads depend on inspection scheduling.

What happens if it rains on pour day?

We move it. Placing concrete into standing water or finishing it in heavy rain ruins the surface. We watch the forecast and tell you as soon as we know rather than the morning of.

Can you pour in winter?

Yes, within limits. We watch overnight lows and will not place concrete that is going to freeze before it sets. Some weeks in January and February simply are not pour weather, and we will say so.

Why are cure times so much longer than set times?

Concrete is hard enough to walk on long before it is strong enough to carry a truck. It keeps gaining strength for about 28 days. Driving on it early is one of the most common ways a good slab gets cracked.

Do you work on both houses and businesses?

Yes. Residential driveways, patios, sidewalks, steps and slabs, and commercial pads, footings, floors and parking lots. Both get the same walkthrough and the same written price.

How thick should my concrete be?

Four inches over a compacted stone base for cars and light trucks, five or six where a work truck, RV or trailer will sit or where the subgrade is soft. Commercial loads get sized to the traffic, not to a rule of thumb.

Do you cut control joints?

Accepted Answer

Always, and we lay them out before the pour rather than improvising. Concrete shrinks as it cures. Joints decide where that goes instead of leaving it to chance.

Can you repair instead of replace?

Sometimes. If the slab is sound and only the surface is worn, a repair or overlay can work. If sections have moved or the base has washed out, a repair cracks in the same place, and we will tell you which one you have.

Can you match my existing concrete?

Close, never exact. Cement color varies batch to batch and old concrete carries years of weathering. Where the match matters we will suggest a border, a joint line or replacing both sections so the difference reads as a design line rather than a patch.

Do you do stamped and colored concrete?

Yes. Stamped patterns and integral or broadcast color for patios, walkways, entries and pool decks. We bring samples to the estimate so you are choosing from a real finish rather than a brochure.

What finish should I pick for a driveway?

Accepted Answer

A broom finish for almost every driveway. It gives traction when wet, hides normal wear, and does not fight the house. Decorative work is better used on a border, an apron or the walk than on the whole drive.

Should I seal my concrete?

Accepted Answer

On decorative and colored work, yes, and it needs redoing every few years. On a standard broom finish it is optional. Sealer is not a fix for bad base work, and we will not sell it as one.

Is rebar or wire mesh better?

It depends on the load. Mesh is fine for light residential slabs when it is lifted off the base rather than laid on the dirt. Rebar on chairs is what we use under vehicle traffic, footings and anything structural.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. License and insurance certificates are available on request before any work starts. Ask for them from any contractor you are considering.

Do you pull permits?

Where the work needs one, yes, including right of way and street apron approvals. We tell you at the estimate whether your job requires it and handle it as part of the work.

Who is actually on my property?

Our own crew, with the owner on site. We do not hand your job to a subcontractor you have never spoken to.

Call us. We walk the finished work with you before we leave, and if something is not right we come back and look at it rather than argue about it over the phone.
