Concrete Repair and Replacement in Wilson, NC
Some concrete is worth repairing and some is throwing money at a base problem. We look at why yours failed before we tell you what to do about it, and then we do the smaller job when the smaller job will actually hold. That is a different conversation than a company that only sells replacement.
Diagnosis first, then the repair that matches the cause
Concrete fails in a handful of ways and each one has a right answer. Surface spalling on a sound slab is a resurfacing candidate. A settled panel over a washed out base needs the base rebuilt, not a patch. A crack that is still moving will come back through anything you put over it.
So the first visit is diagnostic. We look at the crack pattern, check whether sections have moved out of plane, find out where the water goes, and probe the base where we can. Then you get a written recommendation that says which option we would choose on our own house and why.
- Cause identified before a repair method is chosen
- Repair, section replacement and full replacement all priced when applicable
- Base rebuilt wherever it caused the failure
- Section cuts made on joint lines so patches read as panels
- Drainage corrected as part of the repair
- Honest word on what will and will not last

The repair and replacement work we do
From one bad panel to a full tear out and repour.
Section and panel replacement
Failed driveway, walk or floor panels cut out on the joint lines, base rebuilt, and repoured to match the layout.
Settled slab lifting
Sunken sections raised and the voids underneath filled, where the slab itself is still sound.
Crack repair
Routing and sealing, or epoxy and polyurethane injection, on cracks that are stable rather than actively moving.
Spalling and surface repair
Failed surfaces on sound slabs repaired or resurfaced with a bonded overlay, where the substrate will hold it.
Trip hazard correction
Offsets at joints and lifted panels ground down or replaced so a walk is safe to use again.
Full replacement
Complete tear out, haul off, base rebuild and repour when the slab or the ground under it is past repair.
How we build your concrete repair
Diagnosis on site
We look at the failure pattern, check for movement and drainage problems, and probe the base where we can.
Options in writing
Repair, section replacement or full replacement, each priced, with our recommendation and the reason for it.
Fix the cause
Base rebuilt, void filled, roots handled or drainage corrected, so the same failure does not come straight back.
Repair and finish
Poured, patched or resurfaced, finished to match the surrounding work as closely as new concrete can.
How to tell repair from replacement
A rough guide. The site visit is what settles it.
Repairable: surface only
Spalling, dusting or a worn finish on a slab that is flat, stable and cracked no worse than hairlines can often be resurfaced.
Repairable: single bad panel
One failed panel in an otherwise good driveway or walk can come out and be replaced without touching the rest.
Repairable: stable crack
A crack that has not changed in years and has no height difference across it can be routed and sealed or injected.
Replace: sections have moved
When panels sit at different heights, the base underneath is gone, and a patch over it will drop the same way.
Replace: cracking throughout
Wide cracks in multiple directions across a slab mean the slab has lost its integrity, not that it needs filling.
Replace: too thin, no base
Slabs poured thin, without steel, straight onto grade will keep failing regardless of what goes on top of them.
What we actually find under failed concrete
Base failure leads the list. Slabs poured on uncompacted subgrade or with no stone base bridge a void until something loads them. Water moving under a slab pulls the fines out and grows that void every year. Nothing you do to the top of a slab fixes it.
Water is the accelerant on everything else. Downspouts discharging at slab edges, negative grade toward the house, and low spots that pond all keep the base saturated and the surface wet. Add dozens of freeze-thaw nights and de-icing salt and the top of the concrete comes off in sheets.
And some of it is just age and specification. A lot of the concrete we replace around Wilson is fifty to a hundred years old, poured thin, without air entrainment or reinforcement, to a standard nobody would use now. It served its time. Patching it is not restoring it.

What moves the price of repair work
Repairs are priced by the extent of the fix and by what has to be corrected underneath.
Extent of the failure
One panel, a section or the whole slab. The unit cost drops as the area grows, which is why replacing a large failed area sometimes beats repairing a lot of small ones.
Base and site correction
Rebuilding a washed out base, removing roots or fixing drainage is the work that makes the repair last, and it is priced as its own line.
Method
Crack sealing is the least. Grinding an offset, lifting a slab, resurfacing, and full removal and repour step up from there.
Matching and finish
Matching a decorative finish, a stamped pattern or a colored slab takes more material and hand work than a broom finish patch.
The estimate is free and it is written down with both options where both are real. If we think a repair is a waste of your money, we will tell you that instead of taking the smaller job.

Repair is cheaper up front and only worth it when the cause is fixable from the top. When the base has failed or the slab is cracked through, repair costs you twice, because you pay for it and then pay for the replacement anyway.
